The motif of this mural is a single cherry tree called "miracle cherry tree" that survived the tsunami at the time of the 2011 earthquake  in the former Ogatsu Junior High School building.

This mural will leave the story and appearance of cherry blossoms to future generations through my students and me working together to create a mural in the school building.

In addition, there is a wish for them to “deepen their attachment to their hometown and alma mater” through the process of mural production, and it is a work that “leaves a trace of existence” by overlapping the miraculous cherry blossoms and themselves.

壁画モチーフは、震災時に旧雄勝中学校の校舎に唯一生き残った1本の桜「奇跡の桜」。この壁画は桜のストーリーや姿を生徒とアーティスト安井鷹之介が共同で校舎内に壁画を制作することを通じて、後世に残していくというものです。また、壁画制作に係るプロセスを通じて“地元と母校に対する愛着をさらに深く根付かせてほしい”という願いがあり、奇跡の桜と自身を重ねて“存在痕跡を残す”作品となっています。

"THEORIA"

 In one wide painting mixed with the landscape of the beach in Ogatsu, the time axis is also mixed, from left to right: Ta, Day, Morning, and Night. This mural will continue to create scenery every day, sunny or rainy, with the changing seasons, the mountains on the other side of the river, the sky that changes its expression every second, the cars that drive by, and the people who live here. As long as people are here, they will continue to "watch and think" about the scenery, and this work will be established together with all of the existence and circumstances that exist here. The name of the work, "Theoria," is a Greek word meaning "contemplation," and can also be broken down to read THE/O(Ogatsu) / RIA(rias) [the shores of Ogatsu]. We hope you will spend some time immersed and imagining beyond your field of vision in front of the magnificent landscape of Ogatsu, including this mural.

海辺の町に対して、雄勝に訪れる前まではざっくりと穏やかでスローな印象を抱いていました。
実際に通い続けると、漁師さんの仕事ぶりや住民の方の日々の営為や話ぶりや仕草、歴史を遡ってみたいという欲望を掻き立てる土地のミステリアスさ、 そして太古にまで想像の幅を拡張させられてしまう圧倒的な海や山や空の大自然があると知りました。
前提イメージを超越してくるそれらのワイルドさとスケールに飲み込まれ、雄勝に来ると必ず「島国に生きている」という実感を反芻します。
雄勝の各浜の風景をミックスした時代性を特定させないワイドな一枚の絵の中には、左から、夕→昼→朝→夜と時間軸も混在させており、これは北上川沿いにある大川小学校遺構に残されている児童壁画の構成を参照させていただきました。

また、雄勝にはリアスの地形からなる独特な移動体験がありました。
各地区・浜間を移動するには、海側→山→海側というルートを通るのですが、 その際に山の中の木々の隙間から見える対岸や水平線の見え方に魅力を感じ、”抜けの窓”をいくつも設ける構成をベースにしました。
この壁画はこれから毎日、晴れの日も雨の日も、移り変わる四季や、対岸の山や一秒ごとに表情を変える空、走る車や生活する人と共に風景を作っていくでしょう。
そして人がここにいる限り、ここでその光景を眺めて「観て想う」ことは続けられていくのだと信じているし、 そこにある存在と状況のすべてとともに成立する作品なのだと、壁画の制作中にずっと考えていました。

そして、この作品のタイトルを「テオリア」と決めました。 テオリアは「観想」という意味のギリシア語です。
スペルを分解すると
THE / O(Ogatsu) / RIA(rias)
と、「雄勝の岸辺」と読むこともできます。

いつまでも、観る人たちがこの壁画を含む雄勝の雄大な風景を前に、視野の先にある没入と想像の時間を過ごしていてくれたらな、と願っています。

"A Fisherman"

 In this work, I painted a scene of fishermen's backs as they tie ropes at the head of a boat. The ropework performed by these fishermen's thick, stout hands is truly beautiful, without wasting a single bit of time. I could imagine a glimpse of the enormous amount of time they spend at the beach every morning without a break during the season, just from this moment alone. The transcendent scale and potential that can be sensed from every corner of this town instantly made me feel a fierce yearning and made my genes and cells tingle, and I feel that it is the greatness of Ogatsu that connects my senses to the ancient times, the essence of which is also passed down in my body from generation to generation.

朝日が昇りきる前の空全体が赤く染め上がる瞬間、その時にはもうすでに海に出て仕事の真っ最中でした。
真っ暗なうちから海に出て、魚を取る。
全身を使って船の上を走り回り仕事をする。
船員それぞれが各々の役割を慌ただしくこなしていく。
太古から続いているであろうその純粋な光景を目の前にして、初めて体感した種類の興奮を止められませんでした。
ビチビチと甲板で跳ね上がる大量の魚から剥がれた鱗が吹雪のごとく舞い、視覚的にはとても幻想的なのだけれど、 目線を足元にやると一斉に無数の魚が体を打ち付ける際に放たれる轟音がダイレクトに船上を包みこんでいました。

この作品はそんな衝撃的な光景の連続に出くわす仕事の中、船頭にてロープを括る漁師さんの背中のワンシーンを描かせてもらっています。
彼らの太くゴツゴツとした手から繰り出されるロープワークの所作も一才の無駄がなく、本当に美しいです。
シーズン中は休みなく毎日毎朝海に出て仕事をする、この瞬間からだけでもその膨大のな時間の片鱗を想像することができました。

この町の至るところから感じ取ることのできる超越的なスケールとポテンシャルに、一瞬で猛烈な憧れを抱かされて、遺伝子や細胞が疼いたのは、 脈々と自分の身体にも受け継がれるエッセンスを太古にまで感覚をつなげてくれる雄勝の凄みなのだと僕は感じています。
